Gillian Goddard

Project Partner Sail Culture & Strategic Visioning Support

Gillian Goddard, founder of Chocolate Rebellion, the Alliance of Rural Communities (ARC) and the Sail Culture Collective centers the cacao and chocolate industry as a site of resistance. Her work dismantles colonial food value chains across the Global North and Global South and replaces them with networks of cooperation and equity. ARC, which she founded in 2014, has spread across the Caribbean, creating regenerative farming systems and sustainable rural livelihoods. The Cross Atlantic Chocolate Collective, a US-based cooperative now known as Chocolate Rebellion, unites Black rural farming and urban food processing communities across North America, Africa, and the Caribbean. The Sail Culture collective links the goods and cultures through decarbonized ocean transport. Gillian’s work is not about chocolate alone—it is about building ecosystems of care, repair, and collective economics that challenge exploitative global supply chain structures.
